Celebrating Parbold’s Canal Heritage is this year’s Parbold Village Show Theme
If you’ve ever wondered why there’s such a sharp turn in the canal at Parbold, you may be interested to know that this section of the canal was originally intended to head North to Leyland via Eccleston. However, a series of events meant it instead headed East towards Wigan.
Parbold has a long history of waterway navigation (More on this is available to read on ParboldOnline), and we thought for the 2025 Parbold Village Show, we’d make this our theme and celebrate the rich heritage of the village and the canal that holds a lot more stories than you might imagine!
Nowadays, residents will know that the canal is a draw to many visitors, providing an easy but picturesque stroll through the West Lancashire countryside. A short walk or cycle will take you to neighbouring villages and towns, with places for a quick bite to eat or a refreshing pint on your way. Many narrowboat owners have made it their home, with many more using Parbold as a stop off point on their journey.

The Show Tent
The Show Tent is an integral and historic part of Parbold Village Show that we are very keen to keep alive. We’re looking to make a real impact with it this year, starting promotion and entries eariler, running workshops, and encouraging all local schools to take part.
